Patient Care Coordinator - Medical Assistant (MA)

Job Summary:
Under the direction of a medical provider, RN, or LVN, the Patient Care Coordinator (Medical Assistant) will provide nursing care to clinic patients, including routine office procedures, testing, and other patient care duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care; collect and record accurate patient data (height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and chief complaint).
Prepare patients for exams or procedures, and provide necessary assistance and resources.
Assist providers during procedures, including administering treatments and specimen collection.
Ensure accurate medication administration within the scope of certification.
Document patient information in charts.
Give information as authorized by the provider.
Coordinate patient flow and troubleshoot issues.
Alert providers of potential emergent problems.
Maintain quality care and efficient patient flow.
Provide emotional support to patients and families.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved MA program or equivalent experience with direct patient contact as an Office Assistant.
Current MA Certificate and current CPR certification.
Good communication skills and a professional manner.
Ability to prioritize and manage various situations.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of CPR and emergency procedures.
Awareness and practice of infection control techniques.
Patient relation skills, including the ability to inform and instruct.
Problem-solving skills related to patient flow and care.
Ability to use and maintain clinic equipment and supplies.

Note: Medical Assistants are not allowed to perform certain procedures, including IV insertion, medication administration into IVs, charting papillary responses, inserting urine catheters, independent telephone triage, injecting lidocaine, interpreting skin test results, and telephone triage.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Requires full range of body motion, manual dexterity, standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
